Frequently Asked Questions
What can I do to prepare for my course?
You can check the list of publications that may be mentioned in your teacher’s biography or course description. There is no required reading unless specified in the course description. Most of our faculty books will be available for purchase at our onsite bookstore.
Will I receive course materials ahead of my course?
Some Instructors have material they want to share with participants ahead of their course. When material is provided, we will send you an email in advance of your arrival with either the materials attached or a link to the material online. If your instructor has elected to provide online materials only, this will be indicated in the email. Please print in advance of your arrival, as printing facilities are not available onsite. Each classroom is equipped with WiFi access. If you do not receive an email, you may receive printed handouts on the Monday of your course, or an email with a link to access course materials may be sent following the completion of your course.
Which courses am I eligible to attend? Some of them seem to be geared towards my profession, while some seem intended for others, although the content seems applicable to the work I do.
Our courses are intended for mental health, health, and management professionals. However, other professions such as teachers, pediatricians, clergy, attorneys, or others whose work requires knowledge of human behavior also attend courses. Our policy is to encourage multidisciplinary attendance in our courses. If you would like assistance in deciding if a particular course is a good fit for you, email us at Institute@cape.org.
Who is eligible for reduced tuition?
Students who are currently enrolled in a course of study from an accredited school that requires their full-time effort are eligible. You can now register online and attach a student ID or other documentation for reduced tuition.
Is there disability-related accessibility to the Institute and the surrounding community?
All Cape Cod Institute courses are held in classrooms that are wheelchair accessible, as are the bathrooms. Many nearby lodging facilities have accessibility featured guest rooms including the Whalewalk Inn & Spa, Captain’s Quarters Lodging and Conference Center, Sheraton Four Points. Our on-site staff makes every effort to accommodate the needs of participants with hearing and vision disabilities, such as reserving seats in the front of the classroom. Such arrangements can be readily made on-site or you can make arrangements beforehand by contacting us.
Can you suggest in advance of my trip some recreational activities?
Our staff will email you in advance of your arrival on Cape with detailed information regarding registration for optional afternoon activities, such as the Welcome Reception, Nature Walk, Whale Watch, and an evening at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre. See our Plan Your Visit section for more information on these activities.
You will also receive a digital copy of our 2019 Summer Guide which lists a wide array of recreational resources and information that we hope will make your visit to Cape Cod even more enjoyable.
Do you know of any pet-friendly accommodations on Cape Cod?
Policies about pets change from time to time, so you may want to contact the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce for the most recent information. Cottage Grove, Inn at the Oaks, Cove Bluffs Guest Room and Suites, and Captain’s Quarters Lodging and Conference Center all offer pet friendly rooms.
